Founded in 1960 by Professor Saulius Sondeckis, who was its artistic director for several years, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra quickly became one of the most admired musical groups in its region and was the first Lithuanian orchestra to obtain official permission to play outside the Soviet Union. Since then, numerous tours have taken the ensemble’s musicians around the world, playing in venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and also the prestigious venues of the Berlin Philharmonie and the Musikverein in Vienna.
Since December 2008, the orchestra has been under the artistic direction of violinist Sergei Krylov, who in ten years has been able to further develop the ensemble and place it among the most high-quality chamber ensembles in the world. Sergei writes, “I ask the orchestra what I demand of myself: trying to achieve the best technical quality, always seeking new interpretative approaches, constantly evolving”.
