The Viennese HK Gruber became familiar with music by singing at the Cathedral of his hometown, before entering the conservatory, where he graduated as a double bass player. A leading figure in the Viennese alternative scene, he founded the “MOB art and tone ART” collective in 1968 with Kurt Schwertsik and Otto Zykan, for which he composed. Today considered one of the great figures of contemporary music, he is the recipient of numerous awards and has been named an Honorary Member of the Wiener Konzerthaus, an honour that had distinguished Stravinsky, Boulez or Bernstein before him.
