Born in Lithuania, Sophie Rachlin studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory where she quickly obtained a diploma in piano and conducting. Since 1978, she has lived in Vienna, where she teaches piano and accompaniment at the Konservatorium Wien Provatuniversität. Particularly celebrated for her intelligent and delicate accompaniment, Sophie Rachlin is an accompanist in various major competitions, such as the Sibelius competition in Helsinki, the Queen Elizabeth competition in Brussels and the Paganini competition in Genoa. In 2008, she recieved a special prize celebrating her extraordinary accompaniment at the David Oistrakh International Moscow Violin Competition. Sophie Rachlin also enjoys playing chamber music with great artists such as Janine Jansen, Julian Rachlin, Yuri Bashmet, Mischa Maisky and Lawrence Power, and has performed on many of the great classical stages around the world.
