Born in Armenia into a family of musicians, Sergei Babayan began playing the piano there before continuing his studies in Moscow. In 1989, during his first trip outside the USSR, he won several important prizes in succession, including the prestigious Cleveland International Piano Competition. Since then, he has performed regularly in the most prestigious venues, where his delicate touch and harmonious phrasing have made a notable impact in both the symphonic repertoire and chamber music. Signed by Deutsche Grammophon, the pianist’s impressive discography has been unanimously acclaimed by critics.
